Keith Hodsoll has been consistently a favourite artist at the Natland & Oxenholme ArtExhibition. Here is some background on the artist and four of his exhibits which can be seen on 5th & 6th March in the Village Hall.
Keith Hodsoll For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed painting but early retirement from a career as a Physics teacher has allowed me to devote much more time and effort to it. I am also a keen amateur photographer and the two activities are, for me, closely related. I work exclusively from my own photos, usually of local scenes, and am attracted to dramatic lighting and high contrast. In attempting to achieve the latter in watercolour, I often break many of the accepted rules. I have exhibited at local open exhibitions in Grasmere and Milnthorpe as well as Natland and have particularly enjoyed working on a number of commissions for people wanting paintings of favourite scenes. The research and location photography are an interesting challenge and it is particularly rewarding when (hopefully!) the finished painting strikes a chord with its recipient. Painting is largely a Winter activity as much of the rest of the year is spent travelling with my wife, Jude, in our camper-van, where we pursue a keen love of the countryside and its wildlife. |
