Art Exhibition 2011

Doreen Hannigan has sent Natland.info photos of the paintings she will be exhibiting at the Natland & Oxenholme Art Exhibition in the Village Hall on 5th and 6th March.

Doreen Hannigan I have been painting since my retirement trn years ago. I have tried most mediums but enjoy my pastel and watercolours the most. I belong to Grange and Cartmel Art Societies plus a painting group at Witherslack.   I have done several portraits of animals but enjoy botanical works, as gardening has always been my next interest. The Lake District offers us so many beautiful scenes to paint - I tend to sketch and photograph a lot of my images I am keen to paint, this way I can work on the paintings in my studio. I am happy to do commissions. You can contact me by e-mail.

Continuous Payment Phone Calls

A lady in the County has highlighted this problem as she had a call recently.  

Recently on the BBC program "Rip Off Britain" they highlighted the problem of people cold calling and asking for debit card details so they can send a trial offer of a product. If the details are given it is very difficult to stop continuous payments to the company; even the Banks do not have the mandate to stop payment.

NEVER give any bank details to unknown people over the phone and NEVER enter into a trial agreement by phone or on the internet.

South Westmorland Neighbourhood Forum

Meeting to take place on Wednesday 2nd March 2011, 7:30 p.m. at Natland & Oxenholme Village Hall

This Neighbourhood Forum is organised by Cumbria County Council in order to encourage communication between residents, service providers and Councillors. The Forums can give details about issues of interest to local people and give a chance to raise concerns and ideas for the area.

AGENDA

1. WELCOME (and any relevant “declarations of interest” from the County Councillors)

2. A LOCAL VIEW – A local resident will give their view of life in the Natland area

3. LOCAL DEVELOPMENT FRAMEWORK CONSULTATION

South Lakeland District Council is consulting on possible sites for new housing and employment.    Dan Hudson, the Council’s Development Strategy Group Manager, will talk about:

* Why development is needed
* Suggested site options for the area
* How SLDC is consulting
* How people can make their views known
* What happens next?

4. 2011/12 BUDGETS

Councillors will talk about Cumbria County Council and South Lakeland District Council budgets and Sergeant Bill Nolan will talk about Police budgets for the coming year

Art Exhibition 2011

Keith Hodsoll has been consistently a favourite artist at the Natland & Oxenholme ArtExhibition. Here is some background on the artist and four of his exhibits which can be seen on 5th & 6th March in the Village Hall.

Keith Hodsoll For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed painting but early retirement from a career as a Physics teacher has allowed me to devote much more time and effort to it. I am also a keen amateur photographer and the two activities are, for me, closely related. I work exclusively from my own photos, usually of local scenes, and am attracted to dramatic lighting and high contrast. In attempting to achieve the latter in watercolour, I often break many of the accepted rules. I have exhibited at local open exhibitions in Grasmere and Milnthorpe as well as Natland and have particularly enjoyed working on a number of commissions for people wanting paintings of favourite scenes. The research and location photography are an interesting challenge and it is particularly rewarding when (hopefully!) the finished painting strikes a chord with its recipient. Painting is largely a Winter activity as much of the rest of the year is spent travelling with my wife, Jude, in our camper-van, where we pursue a keen love of the countryside and its wildlife.
